Leaping Puma

(no subject)

Let's see a show of hands: how many of you NYC people knew the Police Department is proposing rules that would require any gatherings, formal or informal, of 30 or more pedestrians or cyclists (this includes walking tours, bike club rides, or even big groups of people who find themselves coincidentally walking together), to file for a parade permit? Yes, and if you deviate from the route you applied for in the permit, you get arrested. But here's the great part: if you're in a group of only 10 or more pedestrians or cyclists, and ONE of you breaks ANY traffic law, you ALL get arrested.

If you hadn't heard of this, it's maybe because (1) there's nothing about it on nyc.gov, (2) 311 doesn't know what you're talking about, and (3) the NYPD scheduled the public hearing for 11am on the Monday after Thanksgiving. So public opinion was obviously quite important to them. Fortunately, some people found out about it and showed up while the rest of the city was snoozing and working...

The sheep hats are supposed to illustrate "BAH" (Bicycles are healthy!)

Apparently, civil rights are to police as your wallet is to pickpockets. Watch out! Bush did away with habeas corpus while America slept!

If the right to not be arrested for "Using the Streets Without a Car" is even vaguely important to you, take action!
